THE USE OF LANGUAGES ON FACEBOOK
Abstract
Abstract: This paper aims to shed light on the language practices of Facebook users, as Facebook is currently one of the most prominent communication platforms. The widespread use of such platforms, the speed at which they transmit news and information, and the ease of communication between individuals are well known. These factors allow users to communicate easily and effortlessly. The paper also seeks to explore the languages used among Facebook users and to what extent they respect the rules of the languages they use. What we observe on Facebook, in terms of communicative snippets where many sociolinguistic phenomena appear, does not rise to the level of being called "language." Instead, it is merely a linguistic hybrid, a mixture of multiple languages and local dialects that serves neither language nor dialect. This phenomenon threatens all languages, whether Arabic or foreign languages. Therefore, attention must be drawn to this linguistic mixture used by the users of this platform. Keywords: Usage, Language, Social Media, Communication, Sociolinguistic Phenomena.
