Since Adorno and Horkheimer’s predictions about Kulturindustrie, the ideological dimension of art has been closely thought out and articulated with the material conditions of its production and distribution. The task of the artists would thus lie in the search for a style, no longer understood as a work of content (or substance) and form internal to the object of art, but as a specific positioning within the context of cultural industries: that of resistance. This paper calls into question the becoming of this discourse, through an analysis of contemporary forms of writing. The study is based on two authors who made a conscious and assumed choice to write in the face of visual media: Bertrand Bonello and Jérôme Game. One is a filmmaker, the other a poet; one aims to “make a double”, the other to “translate”. By drawing from the properly semiotic resources of what I call reverse shot writing, the article shows how their work operates reconfigurations within the contemporary literary field.
