Resolution of adult-onset cyclic esotropia
Abstract
Cyclic esotropia is a rare type of strabismus that has alternating periods of esotropia and orthotropia. We present the case of a 60-year-old male who complained of inward deviation of the right eye for 8–9 years with alternating periods of 12-h esotropia and 12-h orthotropia. No neurological abnormalities were detected. The patient underwent the right eye 5 mm medial rectus recession and 7 mm lateral rectus resection. Follow-up after 1 month of surgery revealed that cyclic esotropia was no longer present. On follow-up after 1 month, the patient was orthotropic all day long.
