Highlights The design, preparation and application of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/ceramic composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) are summarized from “ceramic in polymer” and “polymer in ceramic”. The summary and outlook on existing challenges and future research directions of PEO/ceramic CSEs for lithium metal batteries are proposed.
