Problem Statement. The need to increase the efficiency of the use of information resources accumulated by the scientific library involves, in particular, providing an opportunity to review the structure of funds and detailing sections of the thematic navigator in V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU). Purpose of the article. Substantiation of the need to detail the headings of the thematic navigator and fix the logical connections between the headings of different classification systems, as well as the study of the peculiarities of the formation of sections of the navigator on the example of the Department of Engineering. Research methods. General scientific methods of system approach, comparative analysis and synthesis, analogy and generalization, etc. were used to complete the research. Scientific novelty. The article discusses the details of the sections of the VNLU thematic navigator with a focus on the full version of the VNLU Rubricator. It was found that the obligatory fixation of the corresponding UDC headings in the descriptions of the headings improves the quality of parallel indexing of documents according to two classification schemes, determines the uniformity of UDC indexes in all sections of the navigator, optimizes a multifaceted systematic approach to document disclosure. Conclusions. The VNLU thematic navigator was created as an important component of the VNLU IRS to provide a high level of information support for research, education and practical activities. The process of detailing the navigator sections while deepening the system of correspondence between the two classifications used in VNLU during the scientific processing of documents, is an important step in i mproving the navigator to cover the full version of the VNLU Rubricator, disclose their content, the classification structure of the library, and the system of correspondence between classifications when searching for v arious sources of information. Detailing and constant updating of the methodological apparatus of the VNLU thematic navigator headings determines the quality of scientific processing of documents, effective access to document arrays and high efficiency of intellectual search in the electronic catalog.
