Stary Krym monuments protection in late 18th – early 20th century
Abstract
The article is devoted to the Stary Krym monuments protection history during the Russian Empire period. The study is based on the traveler’s notes, archival materials, protocols and reports of scientific societies. The author analyzes the monument protection activities of a several institutions: Odessa Society of History and Antiquities, Taurida Provincial Academic Archive Commission, Imperial Archaeological Commission. The investigation and actualization were initial forms of such efforts. The most effective measures were organized of the Taurida Provincial Academic Archive Commission in late 19th – early 20th century. The system included the monitoring of the cultural heritage objects, the involvement of local authorities, as well as educational work among the Stary Krym population.
