Abstract

The text is a critical review of a synthesis of the history of interwar Poland by Włodzimierz Mędrzecki. It argues that the modern/traditional dichotomy, upon which the author bases his explanation of Poland’s socioeconomic problems, is in many respects defi ned questionably. The article calls for more extensive use of com parative analysis and the application of the methodology of postcolonial studies in research concerning Polish history
