La sociologie urbaine dans le contexte français

This synthesis begins by recalling some outlines of a story whose the contemporary French urban sociology is to some extent the heir: an emergence which took place later than in other countries, a recurrent questioning about the object itself, a leading role played by the State in the structuring of the research community and in the definition of themes. During the recent period, the pluralism of paradigms and approaches goes hand in hand with a widely shared concern to account for multiple processes and logics of actors that shape the urban world. This results in a decompartmentalization of traditional topics of urban sociology, and in a fruitful interbreeding with other specialized sociologies and other disciplines.
