Introduction to the Wet Prep

Abstract

Abstract This module is intended to teach medical students and first-year residents the proper preparation and reading of the wet mount made while performing a pelvic examination. This is crucial for the accurate diagnosis of vaginitis, as the improper preparation or reading of the wet prep may lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment of a patient. This module has been in place at our institution for 6 months in which we have determined the quality of the wet mount preparation has improved. This has been determined over direct observation of each resident who makes a wet mount slide. Each resident was observed a total of four times in constructing a wet mount preparation.
