Osvaldo Rodrigues da Cunha (1928-2011) in an international perspective

Abstract

Some personal memories of contacts with the recently deceased Brazilian herpetologist Osvaldo Rodrigues da Cunha (1928-2011) over a 45 year period are presented. Some scientific 'disagreement' about synonimisation of taxa is mentioned. The important role of Cunha as founder of studies on Amazonian reptiles in Brazil is highlighted, as well as his initiating the large herpetological collection of the Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi, in Belém, Brazil.
