“De pugna virtutum adversus vitia”: os pecados capitais na obra de Isidoro de Sevilha = The cardinal sins in the work of Isidore of Seville

Abstract

A proposta deste artigo é analisar a concepção dos pecados capitais na produção de Isidoro de Sevilha, a partir de sua obra magna o “Livro das Sentenças”, na qual descreve sua visão de mundo, sob a ótica da Cristandade e da teleologia agostiniana. O foco central éa construção de uma sociedade cristã que almeja combater o mal encarnado no diabo e em seus aliados, pela extirpação do pecado e pela construção de uma vanguarda de fiéis que se engajariam na luta das virtudes contra os vícios. O eixo da saúde pública permeia esseprojeto que visa a atingir a redenção e a segunda vinda de Cristo sob o Milênio redentor. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the conception of the cardinal sins in the work of Isidore of Seville, from his magnum opus "The Book of Sentences," which describes his world’s vision from theperspective of Christianity and Augustinian teleology. The main focus is the building of a Christian society that aims to combat evil in the devil incarnate and its allies through the removal of sin and the construction of a vanguard of believers who would engage in thestruggle of virtue against vices. The axis of this public health project aims to achieve the redemption and the second coming of Christ in the redeemer Millennium.
