Operative fixation of a pediatric sternal fracture
Abstract
A 14-year-old boy presented with a displaced sternal body fracture sustained in a fall from a trampoline. Due to overlap of the bone segments, the fracture was operatively reduced and plated with a 12-hole titanium ladder plate. Although sternal fractures are typically managed with observation, when there is refractory pain or overlap of the fracture segments an operative fixation is necessary.
