Given the current demand to utilize technology a study was carried out to determine the impact of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in secondary education, and how it contributes to the teaching and learning processes. The research was conducted in the public schools of the cantons of Milagro, Naranjito, Yaguachi, Coronel Marcelino Maridueña, Bucay and El Triunfo in the province of Guayas, Ecuador, in order to determine the factors that are causing the failure of teachers to use and apply ICT in the classroom activities. The information collected and analyzed identified as triggers of the problem a lack of adaptability to ICT, poor training, unlimited access to computer rooms and the reluctance of the authorities to promote the use of technology in educational activities. With the results obtained, it is intended to set a precedent, enabling Milagro State University or other educational agencies to implement projects that develop teachers’ abilities to use new ways of teaching through the use of technology and thus strengthen the teacher-student relationship.
