Nurses procedures and health care in refractive surgery
Abstract
The frequency of myopia (myopia), hypertherapy (presbyopia) and astigmatism are leading to increasing number of patients for refractive surgery. Procedure lasts for several minutes and it is performed in local (drip) anesthesia. The goal is to inform the nurses and the technicians about what is refractive surgery with understanding of the criteria for surgical treatment. Most important thing is patients preparation for refractive treatment and nurses participation in preoperative preparation and postoperative treatment. Health enlightenment about hygienic diet regime and the importance of regular controls are helping the patient and his/her's successful pass through postoperative course. From the year of 2007-th , 2062 interventions were carried out at the VMA Clinic of Ophthalmology. It is about 200 interventions on the annual level and from that number of interventions PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) method is more representative than LASIK (LAYSIK) method. We have to respect the surgical criteria. Refractive surgery can only be applied after 21 years of age. Life without conventional aids is much better.
