Investigating the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurial sales of aquatic animals in the Persian Gulf with the E-Commerce approach (Bandar Abbas city)
Abstract
Aquaculture is one of the largest food production industries in the world. There are more than 400 species of fish species in the Persian Gulf; many of them are eaten as food. Electronic trade of aquatic animals can provide suitable employment opportunities in the fisheries sector as a new field. The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of aquaculture e-commerce in Bandar Abbas city. The statistical society were the active technology companies in the field of e-commerce, selling aquatic animals at the Growth Center of Hormozgan Science and Technology Park. The present study was conducted periodically in 2017 and the data-gathering tool was a questionnaire. The results showed that the largest share of fish sales was62.3%). Also, the fish species diversity was high by the companies surveyed, and the largest share of the sales were fish from families Scombridae (20.3%) and Serranidae (20%). There is a dynamic and global market that can be a turning point and an opportunity to improve the performance and progress of companies. In addition, surveys showed that electronic trade and online sale of aquatic animals in Hormozgan province could have a significant role in improving entrepreneurship in the province.
