Pacientes com deficiências: metodologia e prática de inclusão social na faculdade de odontologia de Valença/RJ
Abstract
Considering the high number of patients with deficiencies and difficulties for dental care to them, since it is still a challenge for most dentists, it is essential that academia join in the social inclusion of these individuals. Anxious to prepare the students for this specialty of Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry of Valença/RJ for 22 years to develop this approach to care through education, research and extension, in order to promote, restore and maintain oral health of patients being inserted in the curriculum discipline of Integrated Clinic for Patients with Special Needs in 2007. This paper aims to present the methodology and practices developed in the FOV, through discipline, using a preventive approach, therapeutic and clinical care, special rehabilitate the patient, enabling their integration into society. Experience shows this type of care receptivity and involvement of students and patients in the proposed activities, such as integrated care to patients of various ages in different special conditions in institutions like CIMEE and APAE city of Valença/RJ and neighboring regions, thus fulfilling social role of education institution. Students experience the possibility of treating patients on an outpatient basis without the need to refer them to procedures under general anesthesia.
