In the background of the dominant ideology of the abolition of frontiers in the world and of the abolition of personal and cultural identity of humans, this contribution is in favour of maintaining the importance of frontiers. Starting from the experience of human finitude, the paper discusses that the “frontiers” are primarily constitutive of the human conditio and its possibilities of development; also borders are here interpreted as an expression of experiences which may be condensed into a horizon, namely, as a horizon of development of a particularity. With the the Cuban philosopher Jorge Manach, the contribution interprets thefrontiers not as lines that demark the limit, but as borders that invite to communication. The frontiers are placed among communication and resistance. The contribution finally takes sides with a policy of balance between the frontiers which should lead to a right universality
