Managers Profile of the Football Clubs of Fortaleza City
Abstract
Sports management is one of the main areas of professional intervention in the context of sport and, with the increased demand for sports products and services, the professionalization of the manager who works in this segment gains importance. When faced with the economic data of the football market, which represents 57% of all sporting GDP, the concern with professional training appears as more urgent and relevant in the context of football clubs, which have been moving increasingly larger revenues and more diversified, such as sponsorships, rights to broadcast games, sale of athletes' rights, box office and sale of products and services. Knowing the training and professional profile of sports managers is essential to diagnose the reality of sports organizations and monitor the evolution of this professional segment. In this sense, some researches were carried out in the country with this theme and the present study appears with the objective of raising and describing the profile of managers of football clubs in Fortaleza city, state of Ceará, Brazil. Fortaleza hosts two football clubs, Ceará Sporting Club and Fortaleza Esporte Clube, which competed in the first division of the largest football competition in the country, in addition to having clubs in the 3rd and 4th national divisions. The study used a quantitative approach and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The method used was the descriptive survey, carried out through a questionnaire survey and non-probabilistic sample, due to the difficulty of access and communication with sports entities. The research subjects were the top managers of football clubs based in the city of Fortaleza. 17 entities responded to the survey, is 12 football clubs with exclusively amateur practice and 5 clubs with professional practice. The study's data lead us to suggest that the management of football clubs in Fortalezais in the hands of a predominantly male profile, consolidating the dominance of this gender in the management of the sports market and, especially, in the football segment; aged 40 to 49 years old; with a basic level of training, that is, at most with completed high school and without training in the area of sports management; who have a professional occupation parallel to work at the club, devoting a maximum of 4 hours to the management of their entities and not being paid for the function.
