This text is the result of two lectures given by the author following two separate tributes paid to Professor Julio Aróstegui after his death. The first, in the Aula Unamuno University of Salamanca, was held on 25 January 2013 at the initiative of the Department of History; the second, promoted by the Group of Studies on Contemporary History of Extremadura (GEHCEx) and the University of Extremadura, occurred in the auditorium of the Municipal Library of Caceres on 25 January 2014.
