Objetivo: Identificar los factores perinatales y maternos que influyen en el Apgar bajo al nacer. Material y método: Análisis retrospectivo y descriptivo de algunos antecedentes clínicos en 87 neonatos con Apgar Objective: To identify the perinatal and maternal factors associated to the low Apgar at birth. Material and method: Retrospective and descriptive analysis of some clinical variables in 87 newborn with Apgar <7 at first and 5th minute of life. Results: The pathologies associated were: chronic arterial hypertension 20%, bronchial asthma 15% and urinary infection 15%; 55% of the pregnant did not present pathologies. 16.1% of the newborn were < 37 week and 14.9% ž42 week of gestational age; 18.4% < 2500 grams and 10.3% ž 4000 grams. At minute of life 49 newborn were moderately depressed and 38 severely depressed; to 5 minutes of life 6 newborn were still severely depressed and 30 moderately depressed. Conclusions: The neonatal depression showed as Apgar < 7 points is related to premature birth, prolonged pregnancy, and maternal pathologies that can alter the maternal fetal gaseous interchange. In those cases a strict control of the fetal cardiac rate, and the presence of a neonatologist at delivery room allow to carry out a suitable treatment of the perinatal asphyxia
