This paper presents a reflection about theoretical positions concerning reading, observing the implications of each of them for the adoption of an approach in the teaching of reading. Considerations are made about the conceptions that underlie these positions and the sociointeracionist bakhtinian theory is focused as the responsible for the development of a socio-historical perspective with conceits like responsivity, counterword and active comprehension which contribute for the appearance of new conceptions of subject, text and language and a new way of looking upon the construction of practices of teaching reading. It is presented yet a reflection upon the teaching of reading upon a perspective based on the New Literacy Studies that supports a culturally sensible approach for permitting to occur in school the emergence of significant reading practices which may consider the cultural differences among the students, making possible the construction of reader-subjects.
