A Historical Perspective of Screening Systems in Healthcare
Abstract
The management carried out through the Triage Systems is something that raises several questions, both to health professionals and the user. It is therefore an increasingly relevant issue. Emergency services in Portugal provide care to millions of individuals per year. The constant changes in care are numerous and depend on the nature of care. Change is therefore a constant in the field of medicine and these changes are increasingly rapid and complex (Azeredo, T R M., Guedes, H M., Rebelo de Almeida, R. A., Chianca, T. C. M., & Martins, J. C. A., 2015). Triage in emergency services is the starting point of the health care delivery process. It should be a meticulous and demanding process carried out by professionals prepared for it. The screening system is a process to be implemented in all users who present themselves in the emergency department in order to determine the severity of their clinical condition either. The primary objective of the main objective of this investigation is to understand the history of Screening Systems in Healthcare. Nowaydays in Portugal, the most used system is the Manchester Sorting System. The goal is to conduct a literature review comparing different Screening Systems in Healthcare, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the current situation. The findings indicate that the Screening System is both valid and beneficial. Nevertheless, ongoing adjustments in service management are required to enhance its effectiveness and alignment.
