MODERNISM AND TRADITIONALISM: NEW ASPECTS OF DIALOGUE OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WITH SECULAR CULTURE

Abstract

The article deals with the key trends of the history of the Catholic Church - i.e. modernism and traditionalism, and important milestones of their confrontation. The author shows that while the appearance of the Church changed, so did its attitude to modernism and modernists. Since the beginning of the third Millennium, the debate of traditionalists and modernists moved for the most part in the field of culture, art, literature, cinema. Therefore, each book or film that touche the Church is more than simple events of cultural life, - it is discussion, debate, somewhat a kind of collision obetween modernism and supporters of Tradition. The American TV series "The Young Pope "is an important step of the dialogue between modern society and the Church, as it exposed the "painful" points of the relationship between the Church and society, inability, unwillingness or unwillingness to understand each other, and at the same time outlined the ways of rapprochement.
