During the 1820s and 1830s in the River Plate, a series of newspapers named after atmospheric phenomenons came to light: El Pampero (1822 y 1829), El Aguacero (1823), El Rayo (1826, 1831, 1833), El Granizo (1827), El Relámpago (1831, 1833), El Trueno (1831). This article analyzes the atmospheric metaphors that designed the contours of the series, looks over the discourse that resulted from the use of these metaphors and studies the reasons that led a group of public writers of the time to link the vagaries of the heavens with the field of post-revolutionary politics. This paper proposes to understand the meteoric language of these newspapers as one of the various rhetorics deployed in the 19th century press.
