Rullov agrárny návrh a Caesarova mariovská politika (Rullus‚ Bill and Caesar’s Marian Policy)
Abstract
Soil played an important role in Roman politics. From the first century BC commanders bought loyalty of their men and politicians favor from the people through land distribution. Therefore, there are several attempts at agrarian reforms in the political life of Rome in the first century BC. The author of the study deals with proposal of Rullus from 63 BC and the role played by Caesar in his promotion. He discusses whether Caesar stood behind this attempt and puts him in touch with Caesar’s efforts to use family ties with Gaius Marius. Marius still had many hidden supporters in Rome at that time, and Caesar wanted to get them on his side and so to exploit the political potential of his connection with Marius. At the same time, this feature of Caesar’s policy suggests that he could be behind the proposal, which to some extent recalls the agrarian policy from the times of Marius and Saturninus.
