New system of liability in the carriage of goods by inland waterways

Abstract

In September 2004 Croatia ratifi ed the Budapest Convention on the Contracts for the Carriage of Goods by Inland Waterways of 2000 (inforced 1 April 2005). As a result, in the Republic of Croatia the new Inland Waterways Navigation and Ports Act was enforced 1 November 2000. That Act expressly emphasizes the application of the above-mentioned Convention also in the national carriage of goods in inland waterways. The author analyses the specifi c main characteristics of the Budapest Convention with regard to the liability of the carrier.
