By adding the insulation with phase change material (PCM), the building's thermal resistance was enhanced. Relying on the capabilities of DesignBuilder, 3584 different cases were defined to determine the effect of different input parameters on energy consumption. The results showed that instead of using insulation or PCM, it is better to use a combination of insulation and PCM. The location of PCM + insulation has a great impact on the energy consumption of the building. For the supposed climate zones, the best installation location was different. For the city of Jeddah, PCM with a temperature of 28 °C was suitable, but for Riyadh, with the increase of the setpoint temperature, it is required to install PCM with a higher phase change temperature. By choosing the best layout from the combination of PCM and insulation, the building energy consumption was reduced by 36 % and 41 %, respectively.
