HISTORIOGRAPHY AS A FORM OF FALSE MEMORIES
Abstract
The article deals with the basic similarity of historical mythology (a national myth) and historiography, which claims to construct and represent of the «national memory» from the point of view of scientific discourse. In fact, mythological thinking is characteristic of a historian at all stages of his work, beginning with actualization and ending with the establishment of causal links between facts and the presentation of conclusions. Everyone can remember something that did not happen to him personally, but happened to those whom he considers a nation. A person who perceives historical schemes as an extension of his natural memory, is in an altered state of consciousness - in captivity of false memories. Historians can model any collective identity, political mythology or civil religion. Historiography is a modern Myth that arose in the European world during the period of modernization, industrialization and the formation of nationalist movements. Outside of nationalist movements and national states, traditional historiography loses its purpose. In the age of the collapse of nations, historiography is being rebuilt to offer its services for implanting super-individual false memories with new identities: subcultural, individual, gender, political, confessional. Historiography as a modern myth is needed by all who want to find their roots in the past.
