Outcome of phacoemulsification and extracapsular cataract extraction: A study in a district hospital in Malaysia

Abstract

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in Malaysia1 and cataract extraction is the most common type of intraocular surgery performed all over the world.2 Cataract surgery has evolved from intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) to extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) and today to phacoemulsification (Phaco) that uses modern technology.
