Centered around the Baudelarian conception of art, this article focuses on the fact that, for Baudelaire, images are a secret provision for beauty as well as a strength against the invasion of representation by everyone’s “weakness” and “lack of inventivity”. They favor, against academism and realism, the birth of a supernaturalist atmosphere, a stepping-stone to memory arts.
