This study evaluates two course books entitled 301 Conversations in Chinese and Chinese Course Book, which are being used at HCMC Open University for non – major Chinese students as well as for English majored students. The subject of the research is the lecturers who have been teaching non majored Chinese students and students who study for a first degree and second degree in the English department and learn Chinese as a non major language. This is the first research conducted on this topic at our university. Quantitative and qualitative data demonstrate that most of the lecturers and students are satisfied with the course books in terms of meeting learning outcomes and being suitable to the course syllabus. Furthermore, the participants also identify some limitations of the course books which should be overcome for their effective use.
