In recent years, interest in mathematics among secondary school students in Ukraine has decreased significantly. In the conditions of active development of information technologies in the world knowledge of mathematics, logical thinking and analytical abilities are necessary for every person to realize his individual potential in society. Article contains an analysis of the reasons for the decrease in the motivation of students in the study of mathematics and methods for solving this problem. The purpose of the article are to share the experience of teaching children to solve mathematical problems related to real life situations. The author offers a set of original tasks with practical content to increase the interest of students in the study of mathematics and improve the quality of mathematical education. These tasks were used in mathematics testing, held at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. The authors demonstrate in the article that the use of practical learning tasks and testing of students' knowledge convinces them of the necessity of studying mathematics, significantly increases motivation and interest. Students gain experience working with quantities, understand the relationships between quantities, create mathematical representations of regularities and characterize some processes. Research results indicate that currently most students in Ukraine are not interested in mathematical subjects and are ready to solve practical problems. The mission of modern mathematics teachers is to change this situation.
