This paper discusses research on the pronunciation presented by baritone Ernesto De Marco in recordings of a 20th century songbook, in comparison with current pronunciation norms and those existing in his time, as well the relationship with nationalist modernists. It became evident that De Marco presented diachronic and individual variations in his pronunciation, and the latter had negative repercussions with regard to nationalist modernism. As conclusions, studying the singer's pronunciation has helped in understanding part of the history of singing in Brazilian Portuguese, besides showing possibilities of interpretation when singing a repertoire from the last century.
