Iatrogenic diversion of inferior vena cava to left atrium—A rare complication of surgical ASD repair
Abstract
Diversion of inferior vena cava (IVC) into the left atrium (LA) is one of the rare complications of surgical repair of the atrial septal defect. Our case emphasizes the presence of cyanosis in the backdrop of surgical repair of atrial septal defect clinches the diagnosis of diversion of IVC to LA. This is confirmed by saline contrast echocardiography, which is a simple, noninvasive and reliable way of diagnosing IVC diversion to LA.
