This article introduces issue 42 of the journal Moussons, which looks at migration from South-East Asia to Europe, and more specifically to France. It returns back to the circumstances surrounding the departure and arrival of refugees, the reception and integration policies developped at that time, and the conditions under which families settled in a context hostile to foreigners in the 1980s and 1990s. The processes of adaptation and acculturation were supported by a wide range of associations. The second part of this paper looks at the future of the new generations of these refugee families, in a movment of renewed mobilisation by associations, now more focused on anti-racism and the artistic expression of a neglected memory.
