The great problems of the XXI century Mexico have awakened among the main business elites an awareness of the need to change the way of understanding their social role. These challenges have led to an interesting process of metamorphosis between the classic business profiles focused on economic capital and the generation of wealth, and the profiles of the new elites, in which a responsible and socially committed culture is put forward. This culture promote the emergence of third level philanthropy, characterized by the development of citizen competencies, far beyond the models of Corporate Social Responsibility, of the Business Foundations, or of being simply second level banking which focus is mainly to donate economic or material resources. One of the main drivers of this new business culture is the Nuevo Leon Business Group, the elite among the business elites of Mexico, which has generated another way of understanding the role of these elites. An elite that has been able to capitalize on its leadership capacity as agents of social change and its potential for influence, being a generator and promoter of root and far-reaching social changes, in alliance with the government and civil society.
