A revision of Melittidae (Hymenoptera: Apoidea) in Korea
Abstract
A revision of Korean Melittidae is presented. Four nominal species are included: Dasypoda japonica Cockerell, Macropis tibialis Yasumatsu et Hirashima, Melitta ezoana Yasumatsu et Hirashima, and Melitta japonica Yasumatsu et Hirashima. Macropis tibialis and Melitta japonica are recorded in Korea for the first time. A peculiar form of Melitta (Melitta) recognized on the basis of female is also documented without nomenclatural designation (provisionally as Melitta sp.) for future researchers’ attention. Largely granular integument of frontal face of head and mesosoma is a key characteristic of this form. It resembles Mellita sinensis known from northeast China in several external features. However, male of this form should be examined for the final taxonomic decision. Key to higher taxa and species occurring in Korea, diagnoses of nominal species, and taxonomic information of the unconfirmed form are given.
