The purpose of this research was to determine the Phytoplankton communities, distribution, abundance, and diversity in Golabar dam lake of Zanjan province. Phytoplankton was sampled in 4 study stations during 1 year, from autumn 2009 to summer 2010. In this research, 42 genera of 6 phytoplankton phylums contains Chlorophyta (18 genera), Bacillariophyta (10 genera), Cyanophyta (5 genera), Euglenaophyta (4 genera), Pyrrophyta (4 genera), and Chrysophyta (1 genus) were detected. The most dominant phytoplankton group belonged to Bacillariophyta phylum that included 66 percent of the annual population which most of which were related to Cyclotella, Synedra, and Nitzschia genera. Chlorophyta phylum included 18% of the identified phytoplankton and included Scenedesmus, Tetraedron, and Carteria genera. Cyanophyta phylum included 10% percent of the identified phytoplankton with only one genus, Oscillatoria. Euglenaophyta, Pyrrophyta and Chrysophyta phylums were in the next rank with the frequencies of 4%, 1%, and 1%, respectively. The average phytoplankton annual total population in Golabar Lake is 7594375 cells per liter. The mutual effectiveness of 3 factors including phytoplankton groups, stations, and seasons showed no mutual effectiveness among them and each factor worked independently (P0.05).
