The aim of the article is to reveal the sacred semantics of protestant chorales in Ukrainian music of late Baroque basing on semiotic and cultural analysis of their themes and motives in order to understand the transcultural transition from Western European to Ukrainian symbols of the 18th century music. Research methodology. The method of decoding the sacral semantics of themes and motives of protestant chorales in the Ukrainian music of late Baroque inherits the basic principles of B. Yavorsky’s analysis of Bach music described by V. Nosina and adapted by us to the semantic analysis of Ukrainian music of the specified era. Results. The article reveals sacral semantics of some themes and motives of protestant chorales which in the music of the late Ukrainian Baroque acquire the meaning of cultural symbols ensuring their transposition into the dialogue of cultures. Novelty. For the first time, the sacral semantics of some themes and motives of protestant chorales in Ukrainian Baroque music has been decoded in comparison with Western European music. This broadens the understanding of transcultural mechanisms of the dialogue between music cultures in the 18th century. The practical significance. Insights into the semantics of some themes and motives of protestant chorales in the Ukrainian music of the late Baroque will give a better understanding of dialogism and multiculturalism in the development of spirituality of the Ukrainian people, which is important for modern European integration processes.
