Latin America: 63 millions inhabitants in 1900, 562 millions in 2005, nearly 9 times more. This extraordinary population growth is explained by the demographic transition started about 1930, i.e. by the decline of mortality and the decrease of fertility who is completed today. This work examines the main steps in the change of population since Pre-Hispanic period until our days, while passing by catastrophic effects of the Spanish conquest in XVIth century, the recombining and demographic growth as well as the economic and social changes which explain the new population trends and the migratory waves coming from other continents in particular of Africa and Europe without forgetting Asia.
