This paper discusses the instrumentation required for obtaining metallic powder by combining the thermal and mechanical impact between the liquid and other fluid. A brief review of existing methods for the production of aluminum powder is made, and then a calculation methodology for the design and dimensioning of an atomization tower is elaborated, which will be used to obtain the diameter of particles ranging from 100 to 300 micrometer in an argon atmosphere of a discontinuous process. In the designed atomization tower the liquid metal is broken up by the action of a flow of pressurized gas supplied from a blower to spray nozzles, and then the liquid metal enters the granulation chamber impelled by a piston. The total cost of the installation is determined and the general aspects on how to operate and maintain the facility expounded.
