Saint-Denis, une lecture archéologique entre visible et invisible

Abstract

13.5 hectares of urban renewal, North of Saint-Denis’ Basilica, have enabled, during the seventies and eighties, the development of an urban archaeology research program that has brought to light the key phases of the town. Since then, Saint-Denis’ Archaeological Unit, with over 200 operations, has established an archaeological network of the territory laying the foundations for the "Archaeology, Territory and Citizenship" project. The work with a multicultural population, in order to raise their awareness on the reading of the town, has been shaped by innovative tools resulting from a constantly renewed reflection. Strengthened by the City Factory (Fabrique de la ville), a new approach is developed today, inciting a personal relationship with the territory facilitates the population’s understanding and active implication in the latter, allowing to make city history together.
