Effect of TiC Ceramic Particles on the Corrosion Resistance of CoCrNi Alloy

TiC ceramic particles can change the microstructure of medium/high entropy alloys,have an effect of fine grain strengthening on them,and so improve their mechanical properties.In order to understand its application potential in corrosive media,as-cast CoCrNi(TiC)x (x=0,0.1,0.2,0.4)alloys with different TiC contents were prepared by vacuum arc melting.The effect of TiC ceramic particles on the corrosion resistance of CoCrNi alloy was studied by means of microstructure characterization and electrochemical test.Results showed that in 3.5%NaCl solution,a relatively stable and dense passivation film was formed on the surface of CoCrNi(TiC)x alloys.Moreover,an addition of a small amount of TiC ceramic particles could improve the pitting resistance of CoCrNi alloy,thus improving its corrosion resistance.However,when the amount of added TiC exceeded its maximum solubility in CoCrNi alloy,the massive TiC precipitates would reduce the corrosion resistance of the alloy,and the main corrosion type of the alloy would change from pitting corrosion into local corrosion.
