A formula to communicative success in the structured telephone interview
Abstract
The study examines communicative strategies of interviewers with high performance in the telephone survey made by the Centre for Federative Research Methodology (RANEPA) in April, 2013. In the triad of communicative act comprised of linguistic, speech and conversational acts, the authors describe seven speech tech-niques: framing of informed consent, answer repair, straying away from formalization, empathy, reasonable filling of pauses, explanation of questions, correct ending of in-terview. Special attention is paid to the paradata of the telephone interview, as it is an essential part of any research. Moreover, four maxims of a high-quality structured in-terview are articulated: bibasic formalization, communicative priority, conversation integrity, total registration.
