Syzygium jambos (Myrtaceae) is here reported for the first time as a naturalized species in Misiones, Argentina. Also, it is the first mention of the genus Syzygium in the Argentinean flora. The description of the genus and a key of the cultivated species in Argentina are included. Data on the geographic distribution, phenology, pollination, dispersal, uses, and reference material of the species, and comments on its naturalization are presented. The first record of this naturalized species is relevant, given its status as an invasive alien plant in other parts of the world, in view to assess its future invasive potential in Argentina
