In the article, the evolution of the Human Development Index (HDI) of Mexico and China discussed in recent years, emphasizing the subperiods 2000-2010 and 2010-2015 when both countries achieve results from their strategies to improve their position in the world ranking United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which ranks countries ranges: low, medium, high and very high HDI. In the paper it is found that in the analysis period, Mexico was better positioned than China in its level of HDI in the first decade of the century. Notwithstanding the above result, it is concluded that China will overtake Mexico from 2025 and even before, to keep its economic dynamism and growth in real per capita GDP.
