Introduction: Cardiac tumors are very rare. Most of the primary cardiac tumors are benign but their behavior and clinical outcome largely depends on the location in the heart. Early detection of cardiac tumors is possible these days with advanced imaging modalities. The current study was aimed to present the clinical experience and pathological characteristics of cardiac tumors. Methodology: We retrospectively reviewed 77 cases of primary cardiac tumor operated in the department of cardiothoracic vascular surgery, U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center during the period of 2016 to 2023. Cases were selected from pathology department database. Demographic parameters included age and gender. Echo and CT finding reports were retrieved from the HMIS. Results: The incidence of benign tumor was much higher (92%) than the malignant tumor (8%). Among the benign tumors, myxoma was the most common (93%) primary tumor. Myxomas have special predilection for the left atrium (77%), although we observed cases in biatrial location as well as in the LVOT and RVOT. Non-myxoma cases were hemangioma, lipoma, hamartoma, fibroelastoma and angiosarcoma. Female predominance (64%) was observed in the study. Conclusion: Advancements of imaging modalities are extremely are helpful in early detection of these tumors.
