Studies of structural, micro structural, optical and electrical properties of alumina toughened zirconia
Abstract
In this present work, Alumina Toughened Zirconia (ATZ) composite of a general chemical composition (1-x)ZrO2-(x)Al2O3 with x = 0.22, 0.24, 0.26 and 0.28 were synthesized by auto combustion process assisted by a reaction sintering at 950⁰C for 5 h. The micro structural, structural, compositional, optical and dielectric studies of the composite materials had been conducted through SEM,XRD,EDAX,Raman spectroscopy,FTIR,UV–Visible and LCR meter. The dielectric constants for x = 0.22, 0.24, 0.26, 0.28 at room temperature are found to be 309, 205, 233 and 224 with a loss factor of 0.60, 0.25, 0.31 and 0.021 at a frequency of 1 kHz respectively. The grain and grain boundary effects of the composite material in capacitive and resistive properties were determined from Nyquist plot. The Non-Debye types of relaxations in the composite sample were confirmed from modulus and complex impedance study. The stretching and bending vibration modes of both alumina and zirconia were confirmed by FTIR studies. The result obtained from UV–Visible spectra, estimated a high band gap energy of 4.43 eV, 4.54 eV, 4.53 eV and 4.09 eV for x = 0.22, 0.24, 0.26 and 0.28 respectively. From the above all analysis, it is concluded that the composite is suitable for electronic circuit packaging and can have a use in storage device as a dielectric substrate material.
