The Periodontium
Abstract
Abstract Working knowledge of the periodontium is an important aspect of dental student education. This resource is primarily intended to provide a concise review of periodontal anatomy and histology. Students utilizing these materials should have already completed a formal anatomy and histology course, and review this material with the goal of relating normal anatomy and histology of periodontal tissues to the anatomical and histological changes that occur with periodontal disease. This resource was created with consideration of modern learning styles involving the use of multimedia and technology that is conducive to anytime, anywhere learning. This framework provides a concise review of the periodontal structures as well as a histological review of the gingival, periodontal ligament, cementum, and bone tissues. The resource contains a 25-minute long video, a PowerPoint presentation, and a reading guide. The entire module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
