This article looks at the imaginaries shaping “Science 2.0” as a set of discourses and practices that crystallize a certain number of recent developments in scientific practices, against the background of the internet. The author presents initial findings from her exploratory research into the basis of these flights of imagination that circulate within the discourses promoting social media systems for researchers, and into the articulation of these discourses with new, emerging, uses of such systems. Various issues arising from questions regarding changes brought about by the introduction of the digital into the scientific world are discussed.
